In Knitting News…

Chris the Merino sheep appears to have wandered from his flock as a lamb five or six years ago, and into the Australian outback. While this particular breed of sheep is typically shorn every Spring, his wool had grown to approximately four to five times the normal amount, resulting in some quite serious health issues.

Fortunately for Chris, he was discovered by a hiker who promptly alerted the Royal Society for the Prevention fo Cruelty to Animals. It was then arranged that he be shorn by four-time national sheep shearing champion Ian Elkins, taking a total of 45 minutes.

Elkins is reported to have cut away just over 89 pounds of wool- a world record breaking amount! Chris’s weight reportedly dropped by half, and he is a much happier animal to have finally had a haircut.
