Contest- Win Robbie Laughlin’s “A Shawl for Sharing” Kit

Robbie Laughlin is a talented Toronto designer and knitting/crochet instructor, who is well known and well loved within the local knitting community- and beyond! Today we are thrilled to be announcing a brand new contest, giving you the opportunity to win a kit to make your very own version of Robbie’s design, “A Shawl for Sharing”.

But first, a little bit about Robbie- Robbie is an avid knitter, but as is often the case, it doesn’t stop there! In the past eight years, after learning to knit from a few friends, he also learned how to spin his own yarns, weave, and work tatting. He has picked up crochet again as well, which he learnt as a young child, but set aside in pursuit of music and technology.

In the past, he worked several different day jobs based in technology and teaching that made high demands of him, and these handcrafts brought a sense of tranquility back to his life.
Knitting has helped him find and build a community full of people he adores. Most importantly, it has taught him not to take life so seriously. To relax, and have fun, to create, and to share.
About Designing the Shawl for Sharing:
“I spent a lot of time down by the lake this summer, often late at night. What started off as a smaller style shawl to warm my own back, quickly became a much larger piece after realizing there was someone I wanted to share these late night shorelines with. Inspired by Gansey sweaters, this shawl uses only simple knits and purls, with occasional slipped stitches, to form chunky textures.
The smaller size will cover your back. The large size can become a warm layer to share with a loved one, or you can wrap yourself up in it when you’re alone. Add buttons and loops to the large, and it turns into a very versatile poncho.”
How to Win Everything You Need to Make a “Shawl for Sharing”:
We want to give you the opportunity to win everything you will need to make this shawl! Including a hard copy of the pattern, a digital copy, the appropriate needles as well as two skeins of Cascade Ecological Wool in shade 8061 (the shade pictured), enough to make the larger version of the shawl.

    1. Love this shawl!
I have used a few of your yarns with great success. 220 Worsted, Heritage and Heritage Silk. I would love to try the Eco.

  1. I don’t think i can choose just one yarn as a favourite. I’ll have to say Cascade Heritage Silk and the new Cascade 220 Superwash Merino. I have knit shawls and sweaters from the Heritage Silk and am currently knitting a Doctor Who scarf with mostly different colours of the Cascade Superwash 220 Merino.

  2. I have to say, I do love the Cascade Eco Wool. I have used it for many years. In fact, one of my first projects, my brickworks scarf, was made out of this lovely yarn. It’s so cozy and I still wear it regularly, 8 years later!

  3. I love Cascade yarns, and seem to mostly be drawn to the Heathers and 220 solids.
Lovely shawl design, and love that oat-coloured wool!

  4. My favourite yarn is the Estelle worsted. I love to knit work socks with it. It is so durable and soft. But who knows maybe the Cascade Ecological will become my new favourite.

    1. Congratulations! You are one of our three winners! Please email us at support(at)estelledesigns.ca to claim your prize! Thank you for participating in our contest!

  5. Heritage Paints sock yarn and Ultra Pima are my favorites! This shawl/yarn combo look beautiful – thanks for the giveaway!

  6. Melilla is my newest favourite Cascade yarn. It is their newest color changing yarn that contains 45% Silk / 35% Merino Wool / 20% Nylon. It has long transitions and some wonderful colourways to choose from. I have just finished a crocheted shawl in colour blue-green, number Q207-04, that looks fabulous!
I love the fact that it has good yardage at 200m per ball, and that you can use a 5-5.5mm needle size. No lace weight for me!
I want to also mention that the ’60 Quick’ book series has become my go to when looking for an interesting pattern that will not take me months to create. I get requests from customers who are loving this book series as well. Keep up the good work Cascade!

  7. I love all Cascade yarns I’ve used so far! Especially Cascade 220 Superwash Sport! It’s great quality yarn at a great price and always consistently lovely! I haven’t tried the Eco Wool yet but it’s on my radar!

  8. Cascade is a well-developed line. I love working in Aran weight so I’m going to go with Cascade 220 Aran. Classic.

    1. Congratulations! You are one of our three winners! Please email us at support(at)estelledesigns.ca to claim your prize! Thank you for participating in our contest!

  9. I’m going to go with the Heritage Sock Solids. I have promised a pair of cat socks for Christmas. The colour choices are excellent.

  10. I love the Eco Wool+. I have knit sweaters in Eco Wool and they are all so lovely! Great pattern and cool contest idea! Thank you for sharing Happy Knitting everyone! 🙂

  11. Love, love the Eco and Eco+ wools. Great value and fabulous colours. Of course, there’s also the Eco Duo … and the Heritage sock yarns, prints and solids. It’s so HARD to choose only one favourite!

  12. Cascade yarn is my go to yarn to knit sweaters and hats for my 3 grandgirls. I can’t count how often I have used Splash, Cherub, Superwash paints to knit for them. The Eco cloud is presently on my needles for my husband. Love the yarn as well as the accompanying patterns, especially for the Splash yarn.

  13. Just finished an amazing sweater for myself in Cascade 220 heather.
It sure keeps me warm on cold winter days. Love all the colours available in Cascade 220.

  14. I love Cascade yarns! It’s too difficult to choose just one favourite, but I have probably knit more beautiful garments with Eco Wools than with any other yarn.

  15. Superwash 220 has been my go to for awhile as I’m fairly new to knitting things beyondnew baby or toddler gifts and that yarn is great as it can be washed!! Saw this contest and thought…..I’m entering as I would love to venture into knitting a shawl….I’ve done socks…Baby hats …Blankets but the shawl is 2017 goal! Thanks for opportunity!

  16. I love love love Cascade Eco. I made DH a Gansey-style sweater out of it. And an Afghan as a wedding present for friends. Stitch definition is wonderful. And I Love the gently sheepy scent of it. I look forward to working with Eco again soon.

  17. I adore Robbie! I also adore Cascade Heritage Silk. I made a gorgeous Fiddle Knits Shawl with it. Would love to try out Cascade 220!

  18. I’ve been using Cascade 220 in solids or heathers for nearly everything lately! I’m a big fan of the heathered look, especially for shawls 🙂

  19. I love Robbie’s design and Ecological Wool is my favourite of the many Cascade yarns I have tried. I used it for my first fair isle sweater!
