Manos del Uruguay Free Patterns & KAL

Our good friends at Fairmount Fibers have just released a series of new free patterns for some of our favourite yarns from Manos del Uruguay, and the timing simply couldn’t be better! As the temperatures begin to drop in the evenings, now is the time we knitters start to get that itch – that need to have something on the needles to work away on as the cool weather sets in.

Fino Shadow Cowl is a lightweight, stylish cowl that will be perfect for crisp Fall mornings! Knit with just one Fino Mini Skein Set, this four round shadow pattern is easy to memorize and fun to knit.

Fino Mini Skein Kits were a huge hit last winter and this is a trend that we don’t see ending any time soon! Fino Mini Skein Kits come with five complimentary shades that take the guesswork out of figuring out what colours go together. And what a great and affordable way to get a nice selection of colours without breaking the bank! Four new colourways have been added that are sure to both delight and inspire you.

Fino Shadow Cowl is featured in the Henrietta colourway and we can only imagine what a show stopper it would be in any of these mouth-watering shades. Why not get a head start on some Holiday knitting? This would be an amazing gift that anyone would love to receive!

Hilltop Poncho is a fast, gratifying project. Knit on 9mm needles, this top down poncho can easily be finished in a weekend. The rolled neck and seed stitch raglans are all that is needed to highlight the rustic nature of Serpentina.

The pièce de résistance of the Hilltop Poncho is the full, flowing fringe in Manos Maxima that beautifully frames the Serpentina and finishes this garment with finesse. There are seventeen gorgeous shades available in Serpentina, a hand dyed and hand spun merino that will have you swooning in the aisles of your LYS (don’t worry, this won’t be the first time the staff have seen that!). In Maxima, there are forty semi-solid shades and thirty-six space dyed, that’s a whole lot of options!

Chimel also spotlights Serpentina and knits up in just one evening! The ultimate project for a beginner knitter or a seasoned knitter who wants instant results, Chimel features top down construction, simple increases and basic stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitch.

Knit on a smaller needle, this hat is dense and super warm, perfect for cool Canadian winters! One skein will complete this hat; however, the fluffy, full pompom will require a second skein.

You will notice that all the Serpentina colourways are named after an accomplished woman in history. The sample was knit in the Rigoberta Menchú colorway. Rigoberta Menchú was the Nobel Peace Prize laureate of 1992 and is a political and human rights activist in Guatemala. We love that Manos blends a little history lesson in every single skein! Four new colourways were recently added to this breath-taking merino, pick one for the colour or for the hero it represents.

Sock Of Roses Knit Along

If you are looking for a great way to kick off the season, allow us to suggest the latest sock Knit Along from Swedish distributor Järbo Garn.

The Sock of Roses KAL uses two contrasting shades of Manos Alegria to highlight the beauty of the pattern. Designed by renowned designer and blogger, Maja Karlsson, this exercise in two colour stranded colourwork is the perfect way to get your knitting mojo back after the summer holiday.

The themes for Maja’s colour suggestions were inspired by “Fika” moments in the garden, lovely days by the sea and penning romantic love letters.

In Sweden, Fika, which loosely translates as a coffee break, is a social institution. They consider it an essential part of the day – making time with friends, family and/or colleagues to have a coffee and a little bite to eat. Maja has chosen a subtle combination that looks good enough to eat for her Fika inspired socks.

Alegria colours A2800-Natural, and A2417-Wedgewood are a sublime pairing for this delicate sock. The slight variation in the Wedgewood blue marries exquisitely with the natural and recalls summer picnics and sailboats.

The second colour suggestion will transport you back in time to sandy beaches and sunshine – exactly what we will want to be thinking of as we pull our socks on this winter.

A2800-Natural is coupled with A2237-Reindeer to make a sock that will remind you of seashells and salty ocean spray.

The last colour suggestion is reminiscent of romantic love letters and takes one back to a simpler time when words meant so much.

This time Maja proposes a delicate shade of pink, A2149-Petal, along with A2800-Natural and the result is a dreamy combination that is out of this world.

The material list for the Socks of Roses KAL was released last week and the first of four pattern installments was launched on August 28th. It’s not too late to join in! Follow the Järbo Garn blog for all the patterns and everything you need to know to get started. And don’t forget to check out Maja Karlsson on Ravelry and Instagram, she really is the queen of colourwork!

Let us know if you are participating in the Sock of Roses KAL, and what colourways you chose. We always love seeing all the different combinations!
