Knit the Knitterati Squares with Marsha and Trish – Block #12

Move over Block #11, there’s a new square in town! According to our volunteer knitter Trish, the newest pattern in the Cascade Knitterati Knit Along is a fun and addictive knit! So fun in fact, she got a little carried away and knit two thirds of the pattern in one sitting! Judging from the response on Ravelry, Block #12 is a big hit with you as well, with some stellar knitters having already finished it.

Block #11 was an easy and intuitive knit. The simple and rhythmic repeat of seed stitch and stocking stitch was broken up only every twelfth row with a basic eight stitch cable. Little effort for massive impact is something every knitter can get on board with!

We have really learned the importance of gauge throughout this Knit Along. The ultimate goal is to have twelve-inch squares, and because so many things can affect our gauge, it is always worth the time and effort to do a gauge swatch. It takes a lot longer to knit an entire block over again than it does to swatch through a few rows, and nothing would be worse than trying to assemble your lapghan with different sized blocks!

Block #12 starts off with a circular cast-on using a crochet hook, something Trish had never done before but was eager to learn. With the help of the handy video tutorial and after a few attempts it was off to the races!

Block #12 is worked circularly from the inside out. It starts small with only eight stitches, offering knitters the opportunity to work on double pointed needles or use the Magic Loop technique until there are enough stitches to work comfortably on a 24″ circular needle. According to Trish, “the increases on every other row meant the square grew quickly and before I knew it I was on Row 29 of this forty-row pattern!”

We are into our twelfth ball of Cascade 220 Superwash Merino and we can honestly say that we haven’t had a single knot or imperfection yet, pretty impressive we think! After all, when you use quality yarn, you can expect a quality experience.
