New from Manos del Uruguay!!

Feliz – Spanish for happy, and trust us, happy is an understatement when it comes to the newest yarn from Manos del Uruguay. You will be jumping for joy the minute the get a look and feel of Feliz.

A happy blend of superwash merino and modal, Feliz has lovely drape without sacrificing wool’s bounce. Modal is a type of rayon made from spinning reconstituted cellulose from beech trees. It absorbs dye a bit differently than wool resulting in soft, muted shades. Seven of Manos most popular colourways take on a heathery look that flows beautifully from one shade to the next.

Feliz is sure to become your go-to yarn for Summer projects as modal doesn’t insulate body heat making it perfect for hot, humid days. With 320 meters per ball, two balls will make a tank top or a lacy shawl, and just three balls will make a short sleeve summer sweater. This sport weight yarn has just the right amount of twist to prevent splitting and to make cables and textured stitches really stand out.

If you haven’t grabbed a skein or two of Manos del Uruguay at your LYS, what are you waiting for? Aside from their eye-catching colourways, their mission itself makes people feel good when they buy. Manos del Uruguay yarns are certified fair trade and each skein indicates the location of the cooperative and is signed by the artisan herself making every purchase a personal experience.

Vogue Knitting and Cascade Sorata

The Vogue Knitting Early Fall 2018 edition featured an exquisitely stunning lace dress designed by lace knitting superstar Brooke Nico. Knit in Cascade Yarns Sorata, this lightweight dress would be the perfect compliment to any Summer wardrobe.

The delicate composition of 70% alpaca and 30% silk make Sorata the ideal choice for this sensational dress. A fingering weight with 400 meters per ball, only three to four balls are needed for any of the three sizes. The engaging, repetitive lace pattern is almost hypnotic to knit and makes this an addictive and surprisingly fast project.

Sorata is available in thirteen subtle shades and each and every one would be superb for this masterpiece. Knit it in black for the ultimate LBD, or pale blue and wear it as a beach cover-up, the options are endless! What colour would you choose to highlight this elegant lace pattern?

We know Brooke’s lace dress is going to be a big hit this summer so be sure to take a trip to your LYS soon and pick up everything you need to be the most stylish person on your block!

Happy knitting and crocheting everyone!
