If you are a knitter who likes to knit for others, or perhaps who likes to punctuate some of your larger knitting projects with a few smaller ones, then we have a very worthy project (and cause!) that you might want to consider getting involved in.
‘Knitted Knockers of Canada’ is an organization that provides handmade breast prosthesis for women who have undergone mastectomies, or other procedures to the breast. These prostheses are available for free to anyone who needs one, and are lovingly knit by wonderful volunteers from across the country.
Which is where you and your knitting come in!
The pattern is available for free by simply following this link, and a knitted knocker can be knit up in only a matter of hours.
The suggested yarn is Cascade Ultra Pima, which is widely available in yarn shops across the country. Pima cotton is soft, washable, breathable, and one skein will make several Knitted Knockers, depending on the sizes you decide to make.
To read more about this fabulous organization, and to find out how you can get involved, be sure to check out Knitted Knockers website by clicking here. It is full of information regarding where to drop off your knitted knockers, where to find the yarn, and other ways that you can get involved.
Knitted Knockers of Canada are also active on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. So be sure to follow them!
