In this day in age, when questions can be answered with a simple search online, it seems silly to some, to spend money on bulky reference books. While knitting is something that is constantly evolving, at Estelle Yarns, we would like to argue that a good reference book is something that every knitter should have in their library. While knitting may evolve, the essentials will always stay the same. The same goes for cooking, gardening, quilting- all hobbies that you should devote a bit of shelf space to, should you have any interest in the topic. Reference books are invaluable!
So if you don’t have a ‘go-to’ knitting reference book in your library yet, you should get on that!
And you should start with Vogue Knitting- The Ultimate Knitting Book. It covers all the basics- and then some! Whether you are an advanced knitter, or just starting out, this book is perfect for you. I have a copy of my own, that admittedly- has been torn to shreds, with a spine has been cracked in multiple sections- it’s just that good.
This book covers EVERYTHING. That is, everything including a basic history of knitting, knitting supplies, basic techniques, correcting errors, circular and double pointed knitting, colour knitting, finishing, how to care for your knitwear, designing, embellishments, modular knitting, as well as includes a few designer patterns for you to try out all of these techniques on. (Now, try saying all of THAT in one breath!)
With 280 pages total (including an index, as well as some sheets of knitters graph paper for you to copy, and use as you please), this book is certainly very good ‘bang for your buck’.
The writing is clear and concise, and the diagrams are easy to follow. Not a square inch of space is wasted between these pages!
So if you have a hole on your bookshelf, that could benefit from an information-packed reference book, then be sure to get your hands on a copy of this book!
We promise you that you won’t regret it.
