Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
Designed and created
for Estelle Yarns.
At Estelle Yarns, we work on the traditional and unceded territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. We acknowledge that the land is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples.
The territory on which Estelle Yarns operates is covered by the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Anishinabeg and Haudenosaunee allied nations to share peacefully and care for the lands around the Great Lakes.
Scarborough is covered by the Williams Treaty, created in 1923, and is signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
We are committed to learning from Indigenous knowledge and practices, and to supporting the preservation and flourishing of Indigenous cultures. We aim to foster a deeper respect for the lands and communities that have long been connected to the spaces we inhabit.
As part of this commitment, we recognize that not everyone came to Turtle Island as migrants and settlers. Specifically, we acknowledge those of us who came here involuntarily, particularly those
brought to these lands as a result of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
This acknowledgment is a step towards recognizing the Indigenous peoples who have been stewards of this land, and we strive to honour them through our commitments and our actions. At Estelle Yarns, we are grateful for the Indigenous communities who have stewarded these lands for generations.
